Update May 7, 2026 - 8:45 PM
Current Status: Online
We are pleased to report that the Canvas learning management system has been fully restored and is once again available for all students and faculty as of approximately 8:45 PM Thursday.
Following the earlier outage and security concerns, our IT team has been working to ensure the environment is safe for our users.
Next Steps for Students and Faculty:
- Resume Work: You may now log in to your courses and resume your assignments and grading.
- Verify Submissions: We recommend a quick check of your most recent activity to ensure everything was saved correctly prior to the outage.
- Report Concerns: If you notice anything unusual or experience login issues, please submit a ticket at https://helpcenter.nnmc.edu/
We want to thank you for your patience and flexibility throughout the current outage. Our top priority remains the security of your data and the reliability of your digital campus.
Update May 7, 2026 - 2:40 PM
Status: Offline
Instructure has taken the Canvas platform offline across all regions, as part of their ongoing response to the security breach.
While Instructure initially reported the incident was contained, new developments today led the company to move the platform into emergency maintenance. This outage is nationwide, and unfortunately, there is no current estimate for when services will be fully restored.
What this means for you:
- Access: You will likely be unable to log in to Canvas via the web or mobile app.
- Coursework: We understand the significant impact this has on assignments, grading, and testing. Faculty are being asked to remain flexible with deadlines until the system is stabilized.
- Data Integrity: Instructure continues to maintain that core credentials (passwords) and sensitive financial data were not part of the initial breach. The current shutdown is a protective measure to ensure the long-term security of the environment.
Next Steps & Support:
We are monitoring the situation hour-by-hour. Please avoid attempting to "force" a login or responding to any messages that claim to provide "alternate access" to Canvas—these are likely phishing attempts.
